The RØDE VideoMicro is a compact microphone designed to improve the audio quality of your Osmo by virtually eliminating the annoying fan noise.
It incorporates a high-quality directional condenser capsule for quality audio recordings when used with the Osmo or a wide range of other cameras. It will reduce distracting peripheral sounds and focus on the audio source in front of the camera.
The microphone body is made from aluminium, giving it a high level of RF rejection, and is finished in RØDE’s high-grade ceramic anti-glare coating.
Included with the VideoMicro is a cold-shoe mount featuring a Rycote Lyre shock mount - a suspension structure composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, which is far more effective at minimising unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than traditional elastic suspensions. Virtually indestructible, the Rycote Lyre will never sag, snap, wear out or require rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.
Also included is the WS9 synthetic furry windshield with foam inner cell, designed for outdoor use or where wind and environmental noise can harm recordings.
When used on an Osmo, your aim is to position it as far from the camera body as possible. This can be done in a number of ways but all require purchase of the DJI Osmo Universal Mount to enable cold-shoe mounting.
OPTION 3: This is the ideal mounting position if the phone holder is still required and lets you mount the Mic as far forward as possible for the maximum isolation of fan noise. You'll need to purchase a second DJI Osmo Straight Extension Arm and position one forward of the Osmo for Mic mounting and one rearward of the Osmo for phone mounting.
The VideoMicro features:
• Compact and lightweight - only 80mm long and weighs 42g
• All-metal microphone body
• No battery required (powered by camera plug-in power - min 3V)
• Rycote® Lyre® shock mount included
• Deluxe furry windshield included
• Designed and manufactured in Australia
• Two year extended warranty (when you register your microphone with RØDE)
NOTE: It is possible to purchase longer boom/shotgun microphones for greater directionality but we don't recommend them for the Osmo. The nature of a gimbal means that there is far more likelihood of the mic being seen in shot if it sticks out further than this one, as the mic does not move with the camera like it would on a fixed camera mount.
Camzilla Tip: We don't recommend using the DJI 360 Mic Mount for this mic as it only attaches to the phone holder. That's not ideal because the phone holder rotates, meaning you can end up with your mic pointed at the ground. We prefer the DJI Osmo Universal Mount as it will always point in the same direction no matter what angle you tilt your phone.
