DJI SDR Transmission 2
DJI SDR Transmission 2 is DJI’s second-generation wireless video system for professional sets. Every unit is a transceiver that can be switched between transmitter and receiver on the fly, so one compact 136 g box covers monitoring at the camera, at the director’s monitor, on a phone, and on the gimbal. It transmits DCI 4K/60fps 10-bit HDR video at up to 50 Mbps, reaches up to 4 km, and keeps latency as low as 35 ms, all with far better interference handling than the original SDR Transmission when several systems are running side by side.
What’s new over the original SDR Transmission
Auto Channel 2.0 – with Channel Mode set to Auto the transceivers recognise each other, scan the spectrum, diagnose conflicts and hop frequencies without any manual channel planning, even with multiple systems on the same set.
Multi-group transmission – one transmitter feeds up to eight receivers, each with remote control, and up to five transmitters and 40 receivers can run at the same time.
DCI 4K/60fps 10-bit HDR – H.265 encoding at up to 50 Mbps for clean detail, smooth gradations and consistent colour across every monitor on set.
Up to 4 km range and 35 ms latency – enough for stadiums, car-to-car work and FPV drone shoots while focus pulls and gimbal moves stay responsive.
Pairing-free camera switching – change camera feeds from the transceiver screen or the DJI Ronin app instead of rebooting, scanning and re-pairing.
TX/RX switchable – there is no fixed transmitter-to-receiver ratio, so every unit you own can be used wherever the day’s shoot needs it.
Monitoring and control
Each transceiver has one HDMI port and two USB-C ports (the bottom USB-C carries DisplayPort video in and out). Feed pro monitors over HDMI or DP, add SDI with the Expansion Plate, and connect a phone or tablet to a receiver over USB-C for a stable, high-bitrate wired feed in the DJI Ronin app. The app adds LUTs (including custom imports), histogram, waveform and false colour, and with a supported camera it also gives PTP control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, photo capture and record start/stop. Sony cameras with CEC can be driven in Mirror Control mode over HDMI. On DJI RS series gimbals the same phone controls the gimbal wirelessly with Force Mobile, a virtual joystick and recentring.
Built for the Ronin ecosystem
SDR Transmission 2 mounts on and draws power from the DJI RS 5, RS 4 Pro, RS 4, RS 3 Pro, Ronin 2 and Master Wheels, so no separate battery is needed on the rig. The RS 5 connects with a standard USB-C to USB-C cable; the RS 4 Pro, RS 4 and RS 3 Pro need the Gimbal Control Cable (USB-C to CAN), and Ronin 2 and Master Wheels need the Gimbal Control Cable (USB-C to 4-pin). With Master Wheels linked through a transceiver, an operator can stay at the monitor and control heavy cinema cameras on car mounts and cranes. Away from the gimbal, the transmitter also accepts a USB-C video feed from the Osmo Action 6 and Osmo Pocket 4 and later for lightweight remote angles.
Power options
Industry-standard NP-F batteries (6.8–8.4 V) via the included NP-F Battery Adapter, a 65 W or higher USB-C PD charger or power bank, D-Tap through the Expansion Kit’s cable, or direct gimbal power. A USB-C supply and a battery can be connected at the same time.
Choosing your kit
DJI SDR Transmission 2 – a single transceiver with Camera Cold Shoe Adapter, NP-F Battery Adapter and firmware cable. Buy one to add a transmitter or receiver to an existing SDR Transmission 2 setup, or two for a complete link.
DJI SDR Transmission 2 Combo – two transceivers and two sets of accessories, the ready-to-shoot TX + RX pair for a single-camera setup.
Expansion Accessory Kit – the Expansion Plate adds SDI in/out plus its own HDMI and four USB-C ports, supports loop-out and metadata from ARRI and RED cinema cameras (up to 1080p/60fps through the plate), and lets a receiver output three feeds at once. The kit also includes the Transceiver Cage with NATO rail, 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounts and cable clamps for car mounts and outdoor rigs, plus a D-Tap to USB-C power cable and cold shoe adapter.
L-Shaped USB-C Video Cable (DP, 50 cm) – the recommended cable for DP video from Osmo Action 6, Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P and other DP sources; the right-angle plug keeps the routing tidy.
Gimbal Control Cable (USB-C to CAN) – power and control between the transceiver and the RS 4 Pro, RS 4 and RS 3 Pro.
Gimbal Control Cable (USB-C to 4-pin) – power and control between the transceiver and Ronin 2 and Master Wheels.
Good to know
SDR Transmission 2 cannot link with the original DJI SDR Transmission or DJI Transmission (both systems can share a set if their channels don’t overlap). 4K is carried by the HDMI and bottom USB-C (DP) ports on the transceiver itself; the Expansion Plate handles up to 1080p/60fps. Range and bitrate figures are DJI’s, measured in open, interference-free conditions, and DJI recommends no more than five transmitters in one area. The 5.8 GHz and DFS bands are subject to local regulations. Antennas are fixed and not user-replaceable.
